Growth Mindset Day

On Thursday the 9th of June it was Growth Mindset Day. For growth mindset day we did all sorts of fun activities like juggling and sign langueage.

We also had groups we were in and I was in the Wallabies. There were also the Kangaroos, the Koalas and the Emus.

We had a visitor come to our school and talk to us about developing a growth mindset. Her name was Jo Blesing and she had MS. She had to give up a lot of stuff like friends, her dog and a whole lot more.  I personally think she is an amazing, brave woman. She had to have a wheel chair that helps her to stand up because she can’t move her hands, legs, arms and feet. MS targets the nervous system and it can be very harmful.

After her talk we went to do canvas art. We had to write a quote and my quote was  “Stop saying I wish and start saying I will” – Charles Dickens. I did that with Mr March and it was really fun. He put on growth mindset music like Eye Of The Tiger, The Climb and a whole lot more. He put out colour pencils to draw the background and Poska pens to write the quotes. Mr March got out this black canvas and got us to write all our quotes with Poska pens. The quotes were about having growth mindset and reminds us to never give up.

Anyway, next after recess I went to juggling with Mr Pastro. Mr Pastro showed us how to do it correctly and what the steps are. I loved it and became pretty good with two balls (It’s harder than it looks). Some people got up to three balls but Mr Pastro and Mr March are still the best. Mr Pastro gave us some juggling balls to take home and practice with to become better. He also gave us this paper with the steps on it.

After that, we had a shared lunch in the hall then we went out to lunch. When lunch finished went to sign language with Mr Colagrossi. We did the alphabet in sign language and I know what my name is now in sign langueage . He also made us play this game called planks. In the game planks you have to get to the other side. My team nearly made it to the end, but I kind of was the reason we didn’t which is actually quite funny, but I didn’t really care.

Sign language finished and went to Mr Coligrossi Jr to make a song. I was partnered up with Sofia Z and we made a really cool beat. We put some synths and a drum beat together to make the song. I loved the song.  It was a cool beat to listen to.

Finally, the day ended and we said good afternoon to Mr Pastro. I went to pick-up then mum picked me up and I showed her all the cool stuff I got from the activities.

My favourite activity was making music on Garage Band because I’ve always want to make a song and it was so cool feeling like a song artist. I would totally do it again and I loved Growth Mindset Day.  It was so fun.

  1. Hi! My name is Abbigail from http://www.mrshughesclass.info/ and I really liked your post! First of all, that sounds really fun! I also really like that quote. I wish I could learn more about sign language. We don’t do those sort of activities where I live. Anyway, I can relate. I have the app Garage Band and I also thinks it’s really fun to make your own song. Great post!
